1000 words of the day

scallen.com vs. atomandhispackage

welcome to the new scallen.com -- a text only adventure kindof like Zork, but not really.

in an attempt to keep your attention over the next six weeks while i am travelling with atom and his package through europe, i will give you "1000 words of the day" (instead of a "photo of the day")

21:32pm - munster - i am in a stinky internet cafe with some jerk smoking a cigar beside me so this too will be super short. i always say that and then blather on i know. the ride here was short. saying goodbye to the reflections records posse and good clean fun was shitty, tho i am sure johan and suzanne were glad to get their house back. they are all so cool and so much fun. good, clean, fun, infact

on the way to muster we get stopped at the german "boarder" for a random check. originally i expected to get stamps on my passport from every country we entered but with the EEC there are no boarders between countries. luckily stephan our german driver does all the (smooth) talking. they take our passports and look us up and ask what we are doing. the time it takes them to release us (10 mins) is incredibly unnerving but we are let on our way. stephan just said we are visiting friends. i don't know if they would care that there were several hundred CDs in the back and that atom was playing shows.

oh, as a correction to my comments about goudvishal yesterday, apparently they renegotiated GCF's performance fee bumping it up a bit and the club ended up losing money on the show in the end as the audience fell under the 185 persons needed to break even...

1:20am - arnhem - i am at reflections records making use of their high speed internet and abundant floorspace. today we played a matinee at goudvishal with good clean fun. it was the last of three shows we played with them and i still couldn't get the words right when issa thrust the mic in my face during "good clean fun". duh. today is also good clean fun's last day of their tour. they were suposed to be out for five more days but issa's dad is sick and he's flying home early.i'm going to miss sean, matt, issa and phyte (even tho he is a big jerk :)

one cool thing at the show was a sandwich stand set up feeding the masses. an uncool thing was that ensign was supposed to play the show, they cancelled, the show price didn't change and the promoter wanted to keep the extra 800 guilders instead of passing it on to good clean fun/atom. in the end i think GCF got a few extra bucks.

i have a theory about belgium and netherlands -- they make their mayonaise a special way so it doesn't go bad when unrefrigerated. same with orange juice. no-one seems to refrigerate anything here. maybe refrigeration is a north american conspiracy. maybe jimmy hoffa is buried in a fridge somewhere.

yesterday (the 20th) we played in kontich at lint fabriek - a really cool club in a semi-residential district in the small town outside of antwerp. atom was supposed to open for propagandhi but they cancelled in lieu of the protests in gent. atom was the only act and played a free show. 150 kids came out and he did three encores. dinner was falafel balls, boiled potatoes, a spinach/cranberry/peach salad and chocolate soy pudding. on the way to the show i saw a kangaroo, emu and deer. not roadside wild animals but in a petting zoo or exotic animal farm. it was pretty sweet seeing a kangaroo hopping by. another sweet thing was looking out to the yard of the club before the show and there were 30 bikes and mopeds locked up. fuck belgium/netherlands are cool with their bike paths and non-automobile modes of transport.
